Devastating wildfires, extreme high temperatures, food shortages, droughts, flooding of oceans and rivers, global pandemics... The science is clear that if we fail to act now, the human race will face even more dire consequences.
Cities are on the frontline of the global climate emergency. As Hong Kong’s leading platform for the propagation of local innovation and ideas to the world, TEDxTongChongSt is proud to support TED’s global COUNTDOWN initiative.
To make progress on climate action, we need to collaborate on a global scale. Join us on Facebook LIVE as we bring you distinguished speakers from around the world.
Tong Chong Street, an iconic street on the eastern part of Hong Kong Island, epitomizes the spirit of inheriting the past to inspire the future. The name "Tong Chong" in Chinese means "sugar factory". In the early 20th century, Tong Chong Street was home to the largest and most sophisticated sugar refinery east of the Suez Canal. Today, Tong Chong Street has evolved into a vibrant hub for technology, media, art and design.
In the summer of 2019, a group of young leaders in Hong Kong came together to brainstorm and decided to launch the new TEDxTongChongSt initiative with a mission to bring together an extraordinary community of thought leaders, disrupters and change makers across multiple disciplines to explore the power of ideas and shed some light on the future of our work, life, society and the world.
The first TEDxTongChongStreet event “Hacking the Future” was successfully held at Facebook Hong Kong Office on November 19, 2019. “Countdown. Action. Now.” on October 15, 2020 is the second TEDx event produced by the TEDxTongChongSt team and it will be the first digital native TEDxTongChongSt event through livestreaming on Facebook.
At the core of TEDxTongChongSt, our desire is to connect people and ideas, spread local creativity and innovations to the world, spark new conversations, and keep on inspiring more.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Many of these talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; TED Translators, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has established The Audacious Project that takes a collaborative approach to funding ideas with the potential to create change at thrilling scale; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self- organized TED-style events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

We consider every single application. As much as we would love to see all of you at our event, space at TEDxTongChongSt is limited. Since diversity plays a vital role in TEDx events, we are committed to bring together a diverse audience.
We appreciate you filling out the application here. If your application is accepted, you will receive a confirmation e-mail by early November.
TEDxTongChongSt is always looking for great ideas that we can bring to our community on the TEDxTongChongSt stage. The application is open for anyone - either you apply yourself or someone else nominates you. The deadline for TongChongSt applications will be Oct 14, 2019.
You’re required to be responsive and provide talk outlines, slides and other information we ask for. You’re expected to work with the speaker coaches to modify your talk to optimize impact according and at the pace you agree on with them. You must be present the entire event, for the dress rehearsal and preferably also at speaker/sponsor gathering. We also emphasize that you are available for interaction with attendees before and after your talk at the day of the event.
